If you’re thinking what to wear to Disneyland… Wear comfy, broken-in sneakers, easy layers you can take off and put back on, and clothes that fit the season. You’ll walk 8 to 12 miles a day, and Anaheim can go from warm and sunny in the afternoon to chilly at night. Here’s exactly what to wear, my favorite locker trick, and a simple packing list.

I grew up going to Disneyland at least twice a year, so I’ve learned a thing or two about dressing for a long park day. My favorite time to go is November, and I love the chilly weather and getting to dress cozy and warm. Just know it gets even colder at night near the water, like along the Rivers of America by the Mark Twain Riverboat, so bring a warm layer if you’ll be watching Fantasmic or strolling Frontierland after dark.
What to Wear to Disneyland: The Basics
- Comfy sneakers. This is the most important one. Wear shoes you’ve already broken in. A park day is not the day to try new shoes.
- Layers. A t-shirt with a sweatshirt, hoodie, or light jacket works almost all year.
- Comfy bottoms. Jeans, leggings, joggers, or shorts you can walk in all day.
- A hat and sunglasses. Even in winter, the California sun is strong.
- Something fun. Mickey ears or a Disney shirt make the day feel special and look great in photos.
What to Wear to Disneyland by Season
| Season | Typical weather | What to wear |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (Dec to Feb) | Highs around 68 to 70, lows in the mid 40s. Most rain falls now. | Jeans or leggings, a sweatshirt or sweater, and a warm jacket for night. Pack a poncho. |
| Spring (Mar to May) | Highs in the low to mid 70s, cool nights. | T-shirt, light jacket or hoodie, jeans or shorts. |
| Summer (Jun to Aug) | Highs in the mid 80s to 90s. | Breathable shorts, tank tops or tees, hat, and lots of sunscreen. |
| Fall (Sep to Nov) | Hot in September, cooling to the mid 70s by November, with chilly nights. | T-shirt for the day, sweatshirt or jacket for the evening. |
What to Wear to Disneyland in December
December is the perfect time to dress cozy at Disneyland. Days are usually sunny and around 70 degrees, but once the sun goes down it can drop into the 40s fast, right when the parade and fireworks start. Here’s a simple December outfit:
- A t-shirt or long sleeve top for the warm afternoon
- A holiday sweatshirt or Christmas sweater for the evening
- Jeans or leggings
- A warm jacket, beanie, or scarf for nighttime
- Comfy sneakers and warm socks
- A poncho, just in case it rains

My $7 Locker Trick for Changing Weather
This is what I always do when I go. I bring extra clothes for the nighttime when it gets colder, and I rent a locker. Lockers inside the parks are only $7 a day for a small one, or $10 for a bigger one, and you can open them as many times as you want.
It comes in so handy when it’s warmer during the day. You can dress for the sunshine, and when it gets chilly at night, just go back to your locker and change really quick. No carrying a heavy jacket around all afternoon!
- Where: Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park, Buena Vista Street in California Adventure, and the Esplanade between the two park entrances.
- Price: $7 or $10 a day inside the parks. The Esplanade has more sizes, from $7 to $15.
- Good to know: You can’t leave things in a locker overnight.
Prices are from Disney’s official locker rentals page and can change.
What to Pack for Disneyland
- Portable phone charger. You’ll use the Disneyland app all day. My favorite life hack: buy one at the charger kiosk in the Main Street locker area. It’s a one-time payment, and every time you come back to Disneyland you can swap it for a fully charged one for free, as long as you don’t lose it. It’s so worth it!
- Refillable water bottle. Quick service spots will give you free cups of ice water.
- Sunscreen and lip balm. Yes, even in December.
- Poncho. Much cheaper to bring from home than to buy in the park.
- Snacks. Disneyland allows outside food, so pack a few to save money.
- Small backpack or crossbody bag. Backpacks are allowed, as long as they’re smaller than 24 inches long by 15 inches wide by 18 inches high.
- Blister bandages. Just in case. Your feet will thank you.

Disneyland Dress Code: What Not to Wear
Disneyland is pretty relaxed, but there are a few rules from the official park rules:
- Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times.
- Guests 14 and older can’t wear costumes in the parks, except at special events like Halloween parties that have their own rules.
- Clothing that drags on the ground isn’t allowed.
- Skip brand new shoes, flip flops, and heels. Your feet will be sore by lunch.
